Predictable Behavior

by The Daddy on November 29, 2010

Yo Gabba Gabba is a show we’ve come to watch as a family. The Knob likes it and the Momma and Daddy actually enjoy it as well, for it being a show targeted at children. There are many shows we tolerate, as the little man likes them and they encourage good habits, aren’t too psychotic and in general, seem to calm the guy down for a few minutes. Using the television for the briefest moments of respite falls into the category of things we said we were going to try and avoid, but the magical warm glow of the tube has its benefits.

Plus, we’re encouraged to buy toys that “stimulate a child’s mind” with the use of talking voices, bright colors, motion and funny sounds. If only there was something already in the house that had these characteristics. Does that mean the TV stays on nonstop, with violence, adult themes and pornography on constant loop? Absolutely. Everything should always be done in total extremes.

In watching Yo Gabba Gabba, it occurs to me that Brobee is constantly the one ruining everyone’s good time. The song even practically lets us know right in the credits. Instead of “the little green one!” it might as well sing “we tolerate him!” I know there has to be some conflict on the show to convey messages, but does it always have to be this mutant? Can’t everyone have their share of misfortune? I know they’ll try to mix it up every now and then, I just feel like I’m starting to feel resentment towards this one single character on a show that we’ve all come to watch as a family.
