Delicious Deception and Smoothie Subterfuge.

The kid generally eats pretty well in the house. It’s something The Momma and I take great pride in. He eats what we eat, and usually is getting a pretty good mix of nutritious tasty food. He doesn’t get juice, and when we make smoothies, it’s often with spinach, greek yogurt, flaxseed, carrots, fresh berries or some other fruit combination. That way, if he really isn’t wanting to eat his veggies (which seems to be often, lately), he’s more than happy to suck down the yummy sweet smoothie drink.

The kid can be pretty dumb sometimes!

There’s a whole book (Sneaky Chef) about pureeing vegetables and adding them into kid friendly foods. For example, puree some sweet potatoes and carrots together. Then add that orange mixture to macaroni and cheese. The kid thinks they’re getting a treat with no veggies. The adult laughs maniacally (out of earshot of the mac & cheese eating child).

I find the manic laughter can be quite enjoyable for the kid. He’s even started emulating my creepy insane monster sounds. You never know what he’s gonna take a shine to.

The Knob LOVES him some sweet potatoes. There’s always a few in the fridge.

Dude, I WISH my kids would fall for that shit! I have tried the sneaky approach to veggies and they are just like, “Pffft. We’re on to you, mom.”

My secret weapon has been V8. Low-fat strawberry-banana juice. I don’t get to do any sinister or manic laughing because once I do, they will realize that I have pulled a fast one on them.
